The Pear Tree at Purton, formerly the vicarage, is an elegant Cotswold stone hotel set in seven acres on the outskirts of the Saxon village of Purton, which nestles in the Vale of the White Horse between the Cotswolds and the Marlborough Downs. Just five miles from the Wiltshire town of Swindon, the hotel is within easy access of the M4 and is perfectly placed to visit numerous West Country attractions including the Cotswolds, Longleat, Blenheim Palace, the Georgian city of Bath and Stonehenge.
'Dedication to service is the hallmark of this quietly excellent country hotel in the famous Vale of the White Horse, deep in rural Wiltshire…' as described by the RAC when it awarded The Pear Tree with the Blue Ribbon, its highest award for excellence. The Pear Tree has 17 individually decorated en suite rooms and suites, many with spa baths and one with a four-poster bed. All the hotel rooms are furnished to a high standard and offer a host of luxury amenities.

In The Pear Tree's Conservatory Restaurant, Head Chef Alan Postill specialises in modern English cooking using the very best of fresh ingredients. His food has been the recipient of many awards, including two rosettes from the AA, and is matched with an excellent wine list. The Pear Tree's beautiful gardens are a perfect place to relax.

Within easy access of Swindon, the hotel, with its peaceful setting in Purton, is the ideal choice for a stay away, meetings, private functions and weddings. The Pear Tree provides stylish function rooms, professional service and excellent food, making it a venue suitable for any occasion.

The Pear Tree at Purton - Think Green

The Pear Tree at Purton is now officially the greenest hotel in the area having recently received a Silver Award under the Green Tourism Scheme. This is the first, and so far, the only time that any award has been given to a hotel in the Wiltshre and Swindon area. It covers all areas of greenness and sustainability and amongst the 200+ criteria are:

*Buying local produce ( We have the Wiltshire Breakfast award for the amount of fresh Breakfast items which are sourced from within the County)

* A commitment to fair-trade products

* A commitment to the environment - on site wetlands, wild flower meadows and ponds. We have recently planted hundreds of indigenous wild flowers and trees and we monitor and record visiting fauna.

* A real commitment to recycling. As well as recycling glass and paper, we also have a "Rocket" an accelerated composter for garden and kitchen waste.

* We also closely monitor waste, energy usage and water consumption.
