About Us
The Pear Tree at Purton, formerly the vicarage, is an elegant Cotswold stone hotel set in seven acres on the outskirts of the Saxon village of Purton, which nestles in the Vale of the White Horse between the Cotswolds and the Marlborough Downs. Just five miles from the Wiltshire town of Swindon, the hotel is within easy access of the M4 and is perfectly placed to visit numerous West Country attractions including the Cotswolds, Longleat, Blenheim Palace, the Georgian city of Bath, Avebury and Stonehenge.
'Dedication to service is the hallmark of this quietly excellent country hotel in the famous Vale of the White Horse, deep in rural Wiltshire…' described by the RAC. The Pear Tree has 17 individually decorated en-suite rooms and suites, many with spa baths and one with a four-poster bed. All the hotel rooms are furnished to a high standard and offer a host of luxury amenities.
In The Pear Tree's Conservatory Restaurant, Head Chef Alan Postill specialises in modern English cooking using the very best of fresh ingredients. His food has been the recipient of many awards, including two rosettes from the AA, and is matched with an excellent wine list. Where ever possible, Alan uses locally sourced food, including pork from Bromham, and eggs from Purton. We use our own honey for breakfast, and our own wine, Cuvee Alix, is now available.
The Pear Tree's beautiful gardens are a perfect place to relax with stunning herbaceous borders, and include a wild flower meadow, wetlands, and a vineyard with 600 vines.
Within easy reach of Swindon, the hotel, with its peaceful setting in Purton, is the ideal choice for a stay away, meetings, private functions and weddings. The Pear Tree provides stylish function rooms, professional service and excellent food, making it a venue suitable for any occasion.

The Pear Tree at Purton's Policy on Tips
There is no service charge and any tips given are entirely discretionary. Any and all tips received either in cash or by credit card are distributed amongst both front and back of house. They are distributed through the payroll, and any necessary income tax and national insurance is deducted. The hotel does not make any deduction from this and tips are not used to "make up the minimum wage". All staff are aware of this procedure and have agreed to it. Only under very exceptional circumstances and with the approval of a Director will a member of staff be able to keep a tip specifically for them. Otherwise this action will result in disciplinary procedures being implemented.
