The Pear Tree at Purton - Think Green The Pear Tree at Purton is now officially the greenest hotel in the area having recently received a Silver Award under the Green Tourism Scheme. This is the first, and so far, the only time that any award has been given to a hotel in the Wiltshre and Swindon area. It covers all areas of greenness and sustainability and amongst the 200+ criteria are: *Buying local produce ( We have the Wiltshire Breakfast award for the amount of fresh Breakfast items which are sourced from within the County) * A commitment to fair-trade products * A commitment to the environment - on site wetlands, wild flower meadows and ponds. We have recently planted hundreds of indigenous wild flowers and trees and we monitor and record visiting fauna. * A real commitment to recycling. As well as recycling glass and paper, we also have a "Rocket" an accelerated composter for garden and kitchen waste. * We also closely monitor waste, energy usage and water consumption.
